NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
SCD: Terminal component of the liver microsomal stearyl-CoA desaturase system, that utilizes O(2) and electrons from reduced cytochrome b5 to catalyze the insertion of a double bond into a spectrum of fatty acyl-CoA substrates including palmitoyl-CoA and stearoyl-CoA. Belongs to the fatty acid desaturase family.

Cellular Component: membrane; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; endoplasmic reticulum; integral to membrane; integral to endoplasmic reticulum membrane
Molecular Function: iron ion binding; oxidoreductase activity; oxidoreductase activity, acting on paired donors, with oxidation of a pair of donors resulting in the reduction of molecular oxygen to two molecules of water; stearoyl-CoA 9-desaturase activity
Biological Process: defense response to Gram-positive bacterium; white fat cell differentiation; brown fat cell differentiation; lipid metabolic process; fatty acid metabolic process; fatty acid biosynthetic process

Product Notes
The SCD1 scd1 (Catalog #AAA415297) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's SCD1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Western blot, ELISA, IP, and IHC in obesity research. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) is a regulatory enzyme in lipogenesis. The SCD1 gene is tightly regulated by signals such as insulin, leptin, carbohydrate, fatty acids and temperature. The enzyme (mouse 355aa, rat 358aa; ~37 KDa) is constitutively expressed in adipose tissue and is induced in liver in response to fat free, high carbohydrate diet. The SCD-1 expression is higher in female than male mouse. The repression of RNA levels and enzyme activity of hepatic SCD-1 by Leptin has been shown to significantly reduce the triglyceride storage, VLDL production and therefore an increase in fatty acid oxidation. Inhibition of SCD-1 could be of benefit for treatment of obesity, hepatic steatosis and other metabolic disorders. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SCD1 scd1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SCD1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
