NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that is secreted by white adipocytes, and which plays a major role in the regulation of body weight. This protein, which acts through the leptin receptor, functions as part of a signaling pathway that can inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure to maintain constancy of the adipose mass. This protein also has several endocrine functions, and is involved in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and wound healing. Mutations in this gene and/or its regulatory regions cause severe obesity, and morbid obesity with hypogonadism. This gene has also been linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

leptin: May function as part of a signaling pathway that acts to regulate the size of the body fat depot. An increase in the level of LEP may act directly or indirectly on the CNS to inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure as part of a homeostatic mechanism to maintain constancy of the adipose mass. Defects in LEP may be a cause of obesity (OBESITY). It is a condition characterized by an increase of body weight beyond the limitation of skeletal and physical requirements, as the result of excessive accumulation of body fat. Belongs to the leptin family.

Product Notes

The LEP lep (Catalog #AAA6001171) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Leptin, aa92-145 (Ob, Obese Protein, Obesity Factor) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Leptin, aa92-145 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF). Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, ELISA and Immunocytochemistry. Dilution: Immunofluorescence: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the LEP lep for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Leptin, aa92-145, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
