Specificity
This MAb reacts with a protein of 22kDa, identified as beta sub-unit of HCG. It does not cross react with the alpha sub-unit. HCG is a glycoprotein, which is secreted in large quantities by normal trophoblasts. It is present only in trace amounts in non-pregnant urine and sera but rises sharply during pregnancy. HCG is composed of two non-identical, non-covalently linked polypeptide chains designated as the alpha and beta subunits. The alpha subunit is identical to that of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). hCG MAb detects cells and tumors of trophoblastic origin such as choriocarcinoma. Large cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lung demonstrate anti-hCG positivity in 90% and 60% of cases respectively. 20% of lung squamous cell carcinomas are positive. hCG expression by non-trophoblastic tumors may indicate aggressive behavior.

Protein Family

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the glycoprotein hormone beta chain family and encodes the beta 8 subunit of chorionic gonadotropin (CG). Glycoprotein hormones are heterodimers consisting of a common alpha subunit and an unique beta subunit which confers biological specificity. CG is produced by the trophoblastic cells of the placenta and stimulates the ovaries to synthesize the steroids that are essential for the maintenance of pregnancy. The beta subunit of CG is encoded by 6 genes which are arranged in tandem and inverted pairs on chromosome 19q13.3 and contiguous with the luteinizing hormone beta subunit gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CGB: Stimulates the ovaries to synthesize the steroids that are essential for the maintenance of pregnancy. Belongs to the glycoprotein hormones subunit beta family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Inhibitor; Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.32

Product Notes

The CGB (Catalog #AAA438435) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The HCG-beta (Pregnancy & Choriocarcinoma Marker) Mouse Monoclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's HCG-beta can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin. Immunohistochemistry (Formalin-fixed) (0.5-1ug/ml; 30 min RT) (Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CGB for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "HCG-beta, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
