Related Product Information for EIF2AK4 active protein
EIF2AK4 or eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha kinase 4 belongs to a family of kinases that phosphorylate the alpha subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor-2 to downregulate protein synthesis in response to varied cellular stresses. The EIF2AK4 eIF2-alpha kinase regulates fatty-acid homeostasis in the liver during deprivation of an essential amino acid.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of a family of kinases that phosphorylate the alpha subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor-2 (EIF2), resulting in the downregulaton of protein synthesis. The encoded protein responds to amino acid deprivation by binding uncharged transfer RNAs. It may also be activated by glucose deprivation and viral infection. Mutations in this gene have been found in individuals suffering from autosomal recessive pulmonary venoocclusive-disease-2. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2014]

Uniprot Description

GCN2: a kinase of the PEK family. Phosphorylates and inhibits eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF)-2 alpha, providing an important protective mechanism during various cellular stress conditions including endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.

Product Notes

The EIF2AK4 eif2ak4 (Catalog #AAA4160117) is an Active Protein produced from Insect Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "EIF2AK4 (GCN2), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
