Principle of the assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for ICAM-3 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any ICAM-3 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ICAM-3 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ICAM-3 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family. All ICAM proteins are type I transmembrane glycoproteins, contain 2-9 immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains, and bind to the leukocyte adhesion LFA-1 protein. This protein is constitutively and abundantly expressed by all leucocytes and may be the most important ligand for LFA-1 in the initiation of the immune response. It functions not only as an adhesion molecule, but also as a potent signalling molecule. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
