Test Principle: This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific to NPFF has been pre-coated onto a microplate. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between biotin labeled NPFF and unlabeled NPFF (Standards or samples) with the pre-coated antibody specific to NPFF. After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. The amount of bound HRP conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of NPFF in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of color developed is reverse proportional to the concentration of NPFF in the sample.

This gene encodes a member of the FMRFamide related peptide (FARP) family of neuropeptides. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate multiple amidated peptides. These peptides may play a role in the regulation of heart rate and blood pressure and the modulation of morphine-induced antinociception. Patients with hypertension exhibit decreased expression of the encoded protein. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes an isoform that is proteolytically processed. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2016]
