Intended Uses: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative measurement of SYN1 in human tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernates or other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to SYN1. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody preparation specific to SYN1. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain SYN1, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm +/- 10nm. The concentration of SYN1 in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the synapsin gene family. Synapsins encode neuronal phosphoproteins which associate with the cytoplasmic surface of synaptic vesicles. Family members are characterized by common protein domains, and they are implicated in synaptogenesis and the modulation of neurotransmitter release, suggesting a potential role in several neuropsychiatric diseases. This member of the synapsin family plays a role in regulation of axonogenesis and synaptogenesis. The protein encoded serves as a substrate for several different protein kinases and phosphorylation may function in the regulation of this protein in the nerve terminal. Mutations in this gene may be associated with X-linked disorders with primary neuronal degeneration such as Rett syndrome.
