Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human SEMA5A antibody. SEMA5A present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human SEMA5A Antibody is added and binds to SEMA5A in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SEMA5A antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human SEMA5A. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene belongs to the semaphorin gene family that encodes membrane proteins containing a semaphorin domain and several thrombospondin type-1 repeats. Members of this family are involved in axonal guidance during neural development. This gene has been implicated as an autism susceptibility gene.[provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]

May promote angiogenesis by increasing endothelial cell proliferation and migration and inhibiting apoptosis.
