Biological Significance
Native human C7 is a naturally glycosylated protein composed of a single polypeptide chain of 92,400 Da. C7 is essential for formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) and is activated non-proteolytically by binding to recently-formed C5b,C6 complexes at the cell membrane. Each pathway of complement activation generates proteolytic enzyme complexes (C3/C5 convertases) which are bound to the target surface.
Preparation and Storage
Ships on dry ice. Upon receipt store at -70°C.

NCBI Description

C7 is a component of the complement system. It participates in the formation of Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). People with C7 deficiency are prone to bacterial infection. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

C7: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C7 serves as a membrane anchor. Defects in C7 are a cause of complement component 7 deficiency (C7D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.

Product Notes

The C7 c7 (Catalog #AAA537072) is an Active Protein produced from Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Complement C7, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
