Chlorpromazine is a phenothiazine drug and an antagonist of central dopamine receptors. It has a variety of pharmacological activities. It is used as an adjuvant treatment for tetanus in large livestock, or to eliminate the violent symptoms of Japanese encephalitis and reduce the aggressiveness of animals. It has a long metabolic cycle, high fat solubility, and is easy to accumulate in animal tissues. Long-term excessive use can cause hypotension, tardive dyskinesia, etc. In order to avoid contamination of animal derived food and harm to health, the European Union (EU), the U.S. FDA and China set the maximum residue limit (MRL) of chlorpromazine in animal derived food.
