Colistin, also known as polymyxin E (a mixture of cyclic polypeptide colistin A and B), is a basic peptide antibiotic that has a strong bactericidal effect on gram-negative bacteria and can treat many diseases caused by various pathogens (brucellosis, salmonella, etc.). It has a wide antibacterial spectrum, high efficiency, and low toxicity. It has been used as a feed additive to improve feed utilization. Colistin is a mixture of the cyclic polypeptide Colistin A and B. The European Union (EU) and China set the maximum residue limit (MRL) of colistin in muscle and liver to 150ppb.
