Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for FAM3C has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any FAM3C present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for FAM3C is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of FAM3C bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene belongs to the serine protease family. The encoded protein is an inducible cell-surface bound glycoprotein specifically expressed in tumor-associated fibroblasts and pericytes of epithelial tumors and has protease and gelatinase activity. The protein plays a role in remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and may affect tumorigenesis and tissue repair. Alternately spliced transcript variants of this gene are described in the literature (PMID 9139873), but the full-length sequence of these variants is not available. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2013]

Uniprot Description

FAP: In association with DPP4 is involved in the pericellular proteolysis of the extracellular matrix (ECM), the migration and invasion of endothelial cells into the ECM. May have a role in tissue remodeling during development and wound healing, and may contribute to invasiveness in malignant cancers. Belongs to the peptidase S9B family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 3.4.14.5; Membrane protein, integral; Protease; EC 3.4.21.26

Cellular Component: extracellular space; cell surface; cell projection; focal adhesion; membrane; apical part of cell; lamellipodium; plasma membrane; integral to membrane; extracellular region; cell junction

Molecular Function: integrin binding; peptidase activity; protein homodimerization activity; protease binding; hydrolase activity; dipeptidyl-peptidase activity; serine-type peptidase activity; serine-type endopeptidase activity; endopeptidase activity

Product Notes

The Human FAP fap (Catalog #AAA937486) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA937486 ELISA Kit recognizes Human FAP. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "fibroblast activation protein, alpha, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
