Related Product Information for MCP-2 (CCL8) active protein
The MCP proteins belong to the CC chemokine family, and signal through CCR2 and, with the exception of MCP-1, other CCR receptors. The MCP proteins chemoattract and activate monocytes, activated T cells, basophils, NK cells, and immature dendritic cells. The MCP family cross reacts across species. Recombinant human MCP-2 is an 8.9 kDa protein containing 76 amino acid residues including the four highly conserved cysteine residues present in the CC chemokines.

NCBI Description

This gene is one of several chemokine genes clustered on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Chemokines form a superfamily of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine is a member of the CC subfamily which is characterized by two adjacent cysteine residues. This cytokine displays chemotactic activity for monocytes, lymphocytes, basophils and eosinophils. By recruiting leukocytes to sites of inflammation this cytokine may contribute to tumor-associated leukocyte infiltration and to the antiviral state against HIV infection. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

Function: Chemotactic factor that attracts monocytes, lymphocytes, basophils and eosinophils. May play a role in neoplasia and inflammatory host responses. This protein can bind heparin. The processed form MCP-2(6-76) does not show monocyte chemotactic activity, but inhibits the chemotactic effect most predominantly of CCL7, and also of CCL2 and CCL5 and CCL8. Ref.7

Subunit structure: Monomer or homodimer; in equilibrium. Ref.6

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Highest expression found in the small intestine and peripheral blood cells. Intermediate levels seen in the heart, placenta, lung, skeletal muscle, thymus, colon, ovary, spinal cord and pancreas. Low levels seen in the brain, liver, spleen and prostate.

Induction: By IFNG/IFN-gamma, mitogens and IL1/interleukin-1.

Post-translational modification: N-terminal processed form MCP-2(6-76) is produced by proteolytic cleavage after secretion from peripheral blood monocytes.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family.

Sequence caution: The sequence CAA68168.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.

Product Notes

The MCP-2 (CCL8) ccl8 (Catalog #AAA691949) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human MCP-2 (CCL8) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: QPDSVSIPIT CCFNVINRKI PIQRLESYTR ITNIQCPKEA VIFKTK RGKE VCADPKERWV RDSMKHLDQI FQNLKP. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MCP-2 (CCL8), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
