Related Product Information for IL-8 (72aa) (CXCL8) active protein
IL-8 is a proinflammatory CXC chemokine that can signal through the CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors. It is secreted by monocytes and endothelial cells. IL-8 chemoattracts and activates neutrophils. Recombinant human IL-8 (monocyte-derived) is an 8.4 kDa protein containing 72 amino acid residues.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the CXC chemokine family. This chemokine is one of the major mediators of the inflammatory response. This chemokine is secreted by several cell types. It functions as a chemoattractant, and is also a potent angiogenic factor. This gene is believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, a common respiratory tract disease caused by viral infection. This gene and other ten members of the CXC chemokine gene family form a chemokine gene cluster in a region mapped to chromosome 4q. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: IL-8 is a chemotactic factor that attracts neutrophils, basophils, and T-cells, but not monocytes. It is also involved in neutrophil activation. It is released from several cell types in response to an inflammatory stimulus. IL-8(6-77) has a 5-10-fold higher activity on neutrophil activation, IL-8(5-77) has increased activity on neutrophil activation and IL-8(7-77) has a higher affinity to receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 as compared to IL-8(1-77), respectively. Ref.15 Ref.24 Ref.27

Subunit structure: Homodimer.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Induction: By ER stress in a DDIT3/CHOP-dependent manner. Ref.32

Post-translational modification: Several N-terminal processed forms are produced by proteolytic cleavage after secretion from at least peripheral blood monocytes, leukcocytes and endothelial cells. In general, IL-8(1-77) is referred to as interleukin-8. IL-8(6-77) is the most promiment form.Citrullination at Arg-27 prevents proteolysis, and dampens tissue inflammation, it also enhances leukocytosis, possibly through impaired chemokine clearance from the blood circulation.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intercrine alpha (chemokine CxC) family.

Product Notes

The IL-8 (72aa) (CXCL8) il8 (Catalog #AAA692017) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human IL-8 (72aa) (CXCL8) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: SAKELRCQCI KTYSKPFHPK FIKELRVIES GPHCANTEII VKLSDG RELC LDPKENWVQR VVEKFLKRAE NS. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL-8 (72aa) (CXCL8), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
