Related Product Information for CUTC / CGI-32 recombinant protein
Background: Copper homeostasis protein cutC homolog, also known as CGI-32 and CUTC, is a cytoplasm and nucleus protein which belongs to the CutC family. CUTC may play a role in copper homeostasis. It can bind one Cu1+ per subunit. Copper is an essential trace element to life and particularly plays a pivotal role in the physiology of aerobic organisms. Copper is a micronutrient that is required for proper metabolic functioning of most prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. To sustain an adequate supply of copper, a cell requires molecular mechanisms that control the metal content to avoid copper toxicity. This toxicity comes primarily from the reactivity of copper, which can lead to the generation of free radicals. In bacteria, two independent systems are responsible for maintaining the balance of copper within the cells (Cop and Cut family proteins). The Cut protein family is associated with copper homeostasis and involved in uptake, storage, delivery, and efflux of copper. CutC is a member of the Cut family and is suggested to be involved in efflux trafficking of cuprous ion. CutC is able to respond transcriptionally to copper and to participate in the control of copper homeostasis in E. faecalis.

Description: A DNA sequence encoding the human CUTC (Q9NTM9) (Met 1-Val 273) was expressed, with an N-terminal polyhistidine tag.

NCBI Description

Members of the CUT family of copper transporters are associated with copper homeostasis and are involved in the uptake, storage, delivery, and efflux of copper (Gupta et al., 1995 [PubMed 7635807]; Li et al., 2005 [PubMed 16182249]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

CUTC: a copper binding protein associated with copper homeostasis and transport. Widely expressed in human tissues. Its nuclear and cytoplasmic distribution suggests that it may be a nucleocytoplasmic copper ion shuttle protein.

Product Notes

The CUTC / CGI-32 cutc (Catalog #AAA2545774) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The recombinant human CUTC comprises 284 amino acids and migrates as an approximately 31 kDa band as predictedin SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CUTC / CGI-32 cutc for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CUTC / CGI-32, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
