Intended Uses: For the quantitative detection of Mouse CART prepropeptide (CARTPT) concentration in serum, plasma and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate CARTPT in Mouse serum, plasma. An antibody specific for CARTPT has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any CARTPT present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CARTPT is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CARTPT bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes preproprotein isoforms that are processed into multiple biologically active peptides. Expression of this gene is regulated by cocaine and other drugs, and is associated with feeding/appetite and stress response. Mice lacking the encoded protein are predisposed to obesity. Deficiency of the encoded protein in mice results in pancreatic islet dysfunction, impaired insulin secretion and glucose intolerance. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms, which are subsequently processed into mature peptides. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015]

Uniprot Description

CARTPT: Satiety factor closely associated with the actions of leptin and neuropeptide y; this anorectic peptide inhibits both normal and starvation-induced feeding and completely blocks the feeding response induced by neuropeptide Y and regulated by leptin in the hypothalamus. It promotes neuronal development and survival in vitro. Belongs to the CART family.

Product Notes

The Mouse CARTPT cartpt (Catalog #AAA283432) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA283432 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse CARTPT. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CART prepropeptide, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
