Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for BMP8B has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any BMP8B present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for BMP8B is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of BMP8B bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

The bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a family of secreted signaling molecules that can induce ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs are part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. BMPs were originally identified by an ability of demineralized bone extract to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo in an extraskeletal site. Based on its expression early in embryogenesis, the BMP encoded by this gene has a proposed role in early development. In addition, the fact that this BMP is closely related to BMP5 and BMP7 has led to speculation of possible bone inductive activity. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

BMP8B: Induces cartilage and bone formation. May be the osteoinductive factor responsible for the phenomenon of epithelial osteogenesis. Plays a role in calcium regulation and bone homeostasis. Belongs to the TGF-beta family.

Product Notes

The Human BMP8B bmp8b (Catalog #AAA944757) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA944757 ELISA Kit recognizes Human BMP8B. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "bone morphogenetic protein 8b, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
