Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for Apo-A1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any Apo-A1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for Apo-A1 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Apo-A1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically cleaved to yield a signal peptide and a proproptein that is subsequently processed to generate the active mature peptide. The encoded protein is the major protein component of plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL). This protein facilitates the removal of cholesterol and other fats from tissues by transporting them to the liver for excretion. This protein is a cofactor for lecithin cholesterolacyltransferase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of free cholesterol to cholesteryl esters. Mutations in this gene in humans causes familial HDL deficiency, Tangier disease and familial visceral amyloidosis. Similar clinical features are exhibited by mice with mutations in this gene. This gene is clustered with three other apolipoprotein genes on chromosome 9. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013]

Uniprot Description

Function: Participates in the reverse transport of cholesterol from tissues to the liver for excretion by promoting cholesterol efflux from tissues and by acting as a cofactor for the lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT). As part of the SPAP complex, activates spermatozoa motility.

Product Notes

The Mouse APOA1 apoa1 (Catalog #AAA702111) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA702111 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse APOA1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "apolipoprotein A-I, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
