Calcium binding proteins are an important component of calcium mediated cellular signal transduction. It has two EF hand motifs and is expressed in neuronal cells in such areas as hippocampus, habenular nucleus of the epithalamus, Purkinje cell layer of the cerebellum, and the amacrine cells and cone bipolar cells of the retina.

NCBI Description

The product of this gene belongs to a subfamily of calcium binding proteins, which share similarity to calmodulin. Calcium binding proteins are an important component of calcium mediated cellular signal transduction. Expression of this gene was only detected in retina and brain. Study of the mouse homolog demonstrated that groups of cells expressing this protein are located in the center or inner border of the inner unclear layer of retina. Three alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

CABP1: Modulates calcium-dependent activity of inositol 1,4,5- triphosphate receptors (ITPRs). Inhibits agonist-induced intracellular calcium signaling. Enhances inactivation and does not support calcium-dependent facilitation of voltage-dependent P/Q-type calcium channels. Causes calcium-dependent facilitation and inhibits inactivation of L-type calcium channels by binding to the same sites as calmodulin in the C-terminal domain of CACNA1C, but resulting in an opposit effects on channel function. Suppresses the calcium-dependent inactivation of CACNA1D. Inhibits TRPC5 channels. Prevents NMDA receptor- induced cellular degeneration. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The CABP cabp1 (Catalog #AAA8808374) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CABP Rabbit pAb reacts with Rat, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CABP, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
