Related Product Information for anti-EIF2B5 antibody
Eukaryotic Initiation Factor 2B (eIF2B) plays a key role in the initiation of mRNA translation in eukaryotic cells by acting as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor. The activity of eIF2B is regulated by a wide array of conditions. Stress inhibits its action, while stimulation of protein synthesis results in its activation. eIF2B, an 82kD subunit of eIF2B, is phosphorylated at serine 539 by glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3), which leads to inhibition of its guanine nucleotide exchange activity.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes one of five subunits of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B (EIF2B), a GTP exchange factor for eukaryotic initiation factor 2 and an essential regulator for protein synthesis. Mutations in this gene and the genes encoding other EIF2B subunits have been associated with leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

eIF2B-epsilon: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B, subunit 5. A translational regulatory protein that functions in the early steps of protein synthesis by catalyzing the exchange of eukaryotic initiation factor 2-bound GDP for GTP. Mutation in EIF2B5 causes childhood ataxia with central nervous system hypomyelination/ vanishing white matter leukodystrophy.

Protein type: Translation initiation; Translation

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q27.1

Cellular Component: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B complex; cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; translation initiation factor binding; guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity; translation initiation factor activity

Biological Process: myelination; response to peptide hormone stimulus; translation; astrocyte development; positive regulation of translational initiation; cellular protein metabolic process; astrocyte differentiation; ovarian follicle development; response to heat; response to glucose stimulus; translational initiation; negative regulation of translation initiation in response to stress; gene expression; oligodendrocyte development; positive regulation of GTPase activity

Product Notes

The EIF2B5 eif2b5 (Catalog #AAA612917) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2B, epsilon, phosphorylated (Ser539) (eIF2Be) reacts with Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2B, epsilon can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Dilution: Western Blot: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the EIF2B5 eif2b5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 2B, epsilon, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
