NCBI Description

This gene encodes the cyclic-GMP (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase 6A alpha subunit, expressed in cells of the retinal rod outer segment. The phosphodiesterase 6 holoenzyme is a heterotrimer composed of an alpha, beta, and two gamma subunits. cGMP is an important regulator of rod cell membrane current, and its dynamic concentration is established by phosphodiesterase 6A cGMP hydrolysis and guanylate cyclase cGMP synthesis. The protein is a subunit of a key phototransduction enzyme and participates in processes of transmission and amplification of the visual signal. Mutations in this gene have been identified as one cause of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

PDE6A: This protein participates in processes of transmission and amplification of the visual signal. Defects in PDE6A are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 43 (RP43). RP43 is a retinal dystrophy belonging to the group of pigmentary retinopathies. Retinitis pigmentosa is characterized by retinal pigment deposits visible on fundus examination and primary loss of rod photoreceptor cells followed by secondary loss of cone photoreceptors. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well. Belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family.

Product Notes

The PDE6A pde6a (Catalog #AAA612508) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Phosphodiesterase 6A (PDE6A, CGPR-A, EC 3.1.4.35) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Phosphodiesterase 6A can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Dilution: Immunohistochemistry: 10ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PDE6A pde6a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Phosphodiesterase 6A, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
