NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein is widely expressed in various types of tissues with a high expression level in thyroid gland. In smooth muscle cells, this protein co-expresses with other family members in the nucleus and in stress fibers, suggesting diverse functions in signal transduction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

S100A13: Plays a role in the export of proteins that lack a signal peptide and are secreted by an alternative pathway. Binds two calcium ions per subunit. Binds one copper ion. Binding of one copper ion does not interfere with calcium binding. Required for the copper-dependent stress-induced export of IL1A and FGF1. The calcium-free protein binds to lipid vesicles containing phosphatidylserine, but not to vesicles containing phosphatidylcholine. Belongs to the S-100 family.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q21

Cellular Component: extracellular space; mast cell granule; perinuclear region of cytoplasm; cytoplasm; nucleus; cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; RAGE receptor binding; fibroblast growth factor binding; protein homodimerization activity; copper ion binding; zinc ion binding; calcium ion binding; lipid binding

Biological Process: regulation of cell shape; positive regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; response to copper ion; interleukin-1 alpha secretion; positive regulation of cell proliferation; mast cell degranulation; response to electrical stimulus; cytokine secretion

Research Articles on S100A13

1. Despite the high similarity of the backbone conformation in each protomer, the crystal structures of human S100A13 at pH 7.5 and at pH 6.0 exhibit recognizable differences in the relative orientation of the protomers within the dimer
2. detected in both cells and fibers of the hippocampus at 12 weeks gestation, slightly stronger at 20 weeks, and then decreased with age. In the temporal cortex, strong in all cellular layers at 12 to 24 weeks, declined with age from 28 weeks onwards.
3. Stress-induced export of IL-1alpha involves the intracellular association with the Cu2+-binding protein, S100A13; the expression of a S100A13 mutant functions as a dominant-negative repressor of IL-1alpha release.
4. data show that the expression of endoglin and S100A13 protein corresponds to the activation of the endothelial cells in the process of endometriotic angiogenesis
5. Human S100A13 was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, purified and crystallized by the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion method.
6. In human astrocytic gliomas, S100A13 was significantly up-regulated in high-grade vascularized gliomas. Moreover, S100A13 expression significantly correlated with microvessel density and tumour grading.
7. S100A13 protein translocation in response to extracellular S100 is mediated by receptor for advanced glycation endproducts in human endothelial cells
8. S100A13 is a homodimer with four EF-hand motifs in an asymmetric unit, displaying a folding pattern similar to other S100 members. S100A13 has the unique structural feature with all alpha-helices being amphiphilic.

The S100A13 s100a13 (Catalog #AAA611462) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The S100 Calcium Binding Protein A13 (S100A13) reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's S100 Calcium Binding Protein A13 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Direct ELISA and Western Blot. Dilution: Diect ELISA: 0.5-1ug/mL detection limit for rmS100A13 ~ 1.3ng/well. Western Blot: 0.1-0.2ug/mL detection limit for rmS100A13 i~ 5ng/lane under non-reducing and reducing conditions. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the S100A13 s100a13 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "S100 Calcium Binding Protein A13, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
