NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
PZP: Is able to inhibit all four classes of proteinases by a unique 'trapping' mechanism. This protein has a peptide stretch, called the 'bait region' which contains specific cleavage sites for different proteinases. When a proteinase cleaves the bait region, a conformational change is induced in the protein which traps the proteinase. The entrapped enzyme remains active against low molecular weight substrates (activity against high molecular weight substrates is greatly reduced). Following cleavage in the bait region a thioester bond is hydrolyzed and mediates the covalent binding of the protein to the proteinase. Belongs to the protease inhibitor I39 (alpha-2- macroglobulin) family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes
The Alpha 2-Macroglobulin a2m (Catalog #AAA560662) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Affinity Purified Goat anti-Rat Alpha 2-Macroglobulin reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The Goat anti-Rat A2M gives a single band against acute phase rat serum by IEP and gel diffusion analysis. This product is suitable for ELISA and blotting applications. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Alpha 2-Macroglobulin a2m for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alpha 2-Macroglobulin, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
