Related Product Information for ALKBH2 recombinant protein
Short Description: Full-length ALKBH2 protein (accession number NP_001001655.1) was expressed in E Coli with an N-terminal 6xHis-tag. The molecular weight of ALKBH2 is 33.1 kDa. Recombinant ALKBH2 protein is suitable for use in enzyme kinetics, inhibitor screening, and selectivity profiling.

Background: ALKBH2 (AlkB Homolog 2, Alpha-Ketoglutarate Dependent Dioxygenase) is a member of ALKBH protein family. It can repair alkylated DNA and RNA containing 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine by oxidative demethylation. ALKBH2 can also repair alkylated DNA containing 1-ethenoadenine (in vitro). Has strong preference for double-stranded DNA. It can release modified bases from both DNA and RNA. The oxidative demethylation requires molecular oxygen, alpha-ketoglutarate and iron.

NCBI Description

The Escherichia coli AlkB protein protects against the cytotoxicity of methylating agents by repair of the specific DNA lesions generated in single-stranded DNA. ALKBH2 and ALKBH3 (MIM 610603) are E. coli AlkB homologs that catalyze the removal of 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine (Duncan et al., 2002 [PubMed 12486230]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

ALKBH2: Dioxygenase that repairs alkylated DNA and RNA containing 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine by oxidative demethylation. Can also repair alkylated DNA containing 1- ethenoadenine (in vitro). Has strong preference for double- stranded DNA. Has low efficiency with single-stranded substrates. Requires molecular oxygen, alpha-ketoglutarate and iron. Belongs to the alkB family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The ALKBH2 alkbh2 (Catalog #AAA389186) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ALKBH2, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
