Related Product Information for Hc recombinant protein
Mouse Complement C5 (C5a) is a glycoprotein that belongs to a family of structurally and functionally related proteins known as anaphylatoxins. C5a is a 77 amino acid peptide that is created by the C5a convertase proteolytic cleavage of C5 alphachain in the classical and alternative complement pathway (C4b2a3b, C3bBb3b). Mouse C5a has fouralphahelices, plus three intra-chain disulfide bonds that form a triple loop structure. C5a functions via G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) (C5aR/CD88). C5a is a potent chemoattractant and anaphylatoxin that acts on all classes of leukocytes and on many other cell types including endothelial, smooth muscle, kidney, liver, and neural cells. It mediates IL-8 release from bronchial epithelial cells. It also triggers an oxidative burst in macrophages and neutrophils, causing release of histamine in basophils and mast cells. C5a anaphylatoxin activity on hepatocytes results indirectly from interaction with nonparenchymal cell via prostanoid secretion. Mouse C5a shares 60% and 82% sequence identity to human and rat C5a, respectively.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a component of the complement system, a part of the innate immune system that plays an important role in inflammation, host homeostasis, and host defense against pathogens. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate multiple protein products, including the C5 alpha chain, C5 beta chain, C5a anaphylatoxin and C5b. The C5 protein is comprised of the alpha and beta chains, which are linked by a disulfide bridge. Cleavage of the alpha chain by a convertase enzyme results in the formation of the C5a anaphylatoxin, which possesses potent spasmogenic and chemotactic activity, and the C5b macromolecular cleavage product, a subunit of the membrane attack complex (MAC). Mice with a homozygous mutation in this gene exhibit impaired bone fracture healing and an enhanced inflammatory response in an allergic lung disease model. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]

Uniprot Description

Activation of C5 by a C5 convertase initiates the spontaneous assembly of the late complement components, C5-C9, into the membrane attack complex. C5b has a transient binding site for C6. The C5b-C6 complex is the foundation upon which the lytic complex is assembled.Derived from proteolytic degradation of complement C5, C5 anaphylatoxin is a mediator of local inflammatory process. Binding to the receptor C5AR1 induces a variety of responses including intracellular calcium release, contraction of smooth muscle, increased vascular permeability, and histamine release from mast cells and basophilic leukocytes. C5a is also a potent chemokine which stimulates the locomotion of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and directs their migration toward sites of inflammation.

Product Notes

The Hc c5 (Catalog #AAA2553469) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is Asn679-Arg755. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Complement Component C5, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
