Related Product Information for PIK3R2 active protein
The PI3Kb isoform can be activated by insulin via the insulin receptor to initiate a cascade of events that control cell growth and metabolism. The activation of PI3Kb is mediated by the p85 regulatory subunit binding to tyrosine phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins (e.g. IRS-1 and IRS-2). It was also shown that PI3Kb is involved in apoptosis in human colon carcinoma cells. Injection of neutralizing antibodies specific to p110b in WiDr, HCT116 and CO 115 adenocarcinoma cells inhibited de novo DNA synthesis. PI3Kb is the major PI3K isoform required for apoptotic cell and Fc-g receptor mediated phagocytosis shown for primary mouse macrophages and the Jurkat human leukemia T cell line. It was shown by several research groups that the catalytic subunit of PI3Kb can be activated by Gbg subunits of G-protein coupled receptors.

NCBI Description

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) is a lipid kinase that phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol and similar compounds, creating second messengers important in growth signaling pathways. PI3K functions as a heterodimer of a regulatory and a catalytic subunit. The protein encoded by this gene is a regulatory component of PI3K. Two transcript variants, one protein coding and the other non-protein coding, have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]

Uniprot Description

PIK3R2: regulatory subunit of phosphoinositide-3-kinase. Mediates binding to a subset of tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins through its SH2 domain. Acts as an adapter, mediating the association of the p110 catalytic unit of the alpha, beta and delta enzymes to the plasma membrane, where p110 phosphorylates inositol lipids. May play an additional role in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. Necessary for the insulin-stimulated increase in glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in insulin-sensitive tissues. Its SH2 domains interacts with the YTHM motif of phosphorylated INSR in vitro. Defects in PIK3R1 are a cause of severe insulin resistance. Four alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Product Notes

The PIK3R2 pik3r2 (Catalog #AAA637646) is an Active Protein produced from Sf21 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Kinase Assay, MS Tryptic Fingerprint: Confirmed identity as PI3 Kinase (p110b/p85a) with 26% amino acid coverage of the translated native p110b sequence and 32% amino acid coverage of the translated native p85a. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PIK3R2 pik3r2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Phosphoinositide 3 kinase, p85 alpha, p110 beta, active, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
