Rhodopsin (RHO) Recombinant Protein | RHO recombinant protein
Recombinant Dog Rhodopsin (RHO)
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
Function: Photoreceptor required for image-forming vision at low light intensity. Required for photoreceptor cell viability after birth. Light-induced isomerization of 11-cis to all-trans retinal triggers a conformational change leading to G-protein activation and release of all-trans retinal.
Subunit structure: Homodimer
By similarity.
Subcellular location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note: Synthesized in the inner segment (IS) of rod photoreceptor cells before vectorial transport to the rod outer segment (OS) photosensory cilia
By similarity.
Tissue specificity: Rod shaped photoreceptor cells which mediates vision in dim light.
Post-translational modification: Phosphorylated on some or all of the serine and threonine residues present in the C-terminal region.Contains one covalently linked retinal chromophore
By similarity.
Involvement in disease: Note=Defects in RHO are a cause of autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa (ADRP). The phenotypic features shared by dog and man include a dramatically slowed time course of recovery of rod photoreceptor function after light exposure and a distinctive topographic pattern to the retinal degeneration. This disease was identified in the English mastiff breed. Ref.3
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Opsin subfamily.
Biophysicochemical propertiesAbsorption:Abs(max)=495 nm

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Rhodopsin (RHO), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
