1. UV spectroscopy at 280nm using the absorbency value of 1.1945 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics).
2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of Recombinant beta-Nerve Growth Factor as a Reference Standard.
Recombinant protein corresonding to Human Nerve Growth Factor beta produced in CHO cells is a homodimer, glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 2 identical 118 amino acids. (26.5kD)
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene is a member of the NGF-beta family and encodes a secreted protein which homodimerizes and is incorporated into a larger complex. This protein has nerve growth stimulating activity and the complex is involved in the regulation of growth and the differentiation of sympathetic and certain sensory neurons. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy, type 5 (HSAN5), and dysregulation of this gene's expression is associated with allergic rhinitis. Uniprot Description
Function: Nerve growth factor is important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. It stimulates division and differentiation of sympathetic and embryonic sensory neurons.
Subunit structure: Homodimer.
Subcellular location: Secreted.
Involvement in disease: Defects in NGF are the cause of hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type 5 (HSAN5) [
MIM:608654]. The hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies are a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by degeneration of dorsal root and autonomic ganglion cells, and by sensory and/or autonomic abnormalities. HSAN5 patients manifest loss of pain perception and impaired temperature sensitivity, ulcers, and in some cases self-mutilation. The autonomic involvement is variable. Ref.17
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the NGF-beta family.
Sequence caution: The sequence AAH32517.2 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.

Product Notes
The NGF ngf (Catalog #AAA651016) is an Active Protein produced from Recombinant, Human (CHO cells) and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Nerve Growth Factor, beta Recombinant, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
