Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Rat Hormone Sensitive Lipase (also known as HSL) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat HSL antibody. HSL present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat HSL Antibody is added and binds to HSL in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HSL antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat HSL. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

The protein encoded by this gene has a long and a short form, generated by use of alternative translational start codons. The long form is expressed in steroidogenic tissues such as testis, where it converts cholesteryl esters to free cholesterol for steroid hormone production.
