Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Rat 5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 2A (also known as HTR2A) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat HTR2A antibody. HTR2A present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat HTR2A Antibody is added and binds to HTR2A in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HTR2A antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat HTR2A. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes one of the receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter with many roles. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and are also associated with response to the antidepressant citalopram in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). MDD patients who also have a mutation in intron 2 of this gene show a significantly reduced response to citalopram as this antidepressant downregulates expression of this gene.
