Biological Significance
Pleiotrophin and Midkine are structurally related heparin-binding neurotrophic factors, whose expression is developmentally regulated. The expression pattern of these neurotrophic factors suggests function in neurogenesis, cell migration, secondary organogenetic induction, and mesoderm epithelial interaction. The expression of PTN increases during the process of brain embryogenesis and reaches maximum levels at time of birth. The physiological roles of PTN and Midkine are largely unknown, but these neurotrophins have been implicated in the pathogenesis of neuroblastomas.
Endotoxin Levels
Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug).
Expression System
E Coli
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Uniprot Description

PTN: Secreted growth factor that induces neurite outgrowth and which is mitogenic for fibroblasts, epithelial, and endothelial cells. Binds anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) which induces MAPK pathway activation, an important step in the anti- apoptotic signaling of PTN and regulation of cell proliferation. Belongs to the pleiotrophin family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q33

Cellular Component: extracellular space; endoplasmic reticulum

Molecular Function: heparin binding; growth factor activity; protein phosphatase inhibitor activity

Biological Process: nervous system development; positive regulation of cell division; negative regulation of catalytic activity; positive regulation of cell proliferation; learning; transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase signaling pathway; bone mineralization

Product Notes

The PTN ptn (Catalog #AAA538236) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Pleiotrophin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, User optimized. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PTN ptn for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Region of Pleiotroph in protein correspond ing to amino acids GKKEKPEKKV KKSDCGEWQW SVCVPTSGDC GLGTREGTRT GAECKQTMKT QRCKIPCNWK KQFGAECKYQ FQAWGECDLN TALKTRTGSL KRALHNAECQ KTVTISKPCG KLTKPKPQAE SKKKKKEGKK QEKMLD. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Pleiotrophin, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
