Biological Significance
Protein kinase C is a family of serine-and threonine-specific protein kinases that can be activated by calcium and the second messenger diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate a wide variety of protein targets and are known to be involved in diverse cellular signaling pathways. PKC family members also serve as major receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. PKC-alpha has been reported to play roles in many different cellular processes, such as cell adhesion, cell transformation, cell cycle checkpoint, and cell volume control.
Expression System
Sf-9 insect cells

Uniprot Description

PKCA: an AGC kinase of the PKC family. A classical PKC downstream of many mitogenic and receptors. Classical PKCs are calcium-dependent enzymes that are activated by phosphatidylserine, diacylglycerol and phorbol esters. Contains a pseudo-substrate autoinhibitory domain that binds to the catalytic domain preventing its activation in the absence of cofactors or activators.

Product Notes

The PKC alpha prkca (Catalog #AAA5304303) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PKC alpha, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
