Zinc Finger AN1-Type Containing 2B (ZFAND2B, also known as AIRAPL) encodes a protein containing AN1-type zinc-fingers and ubiquitin-interacting motifs. AIRAPL likely associates with the proteosome to stimulate the degradation of toxic or misfolded proteins. ZFAND2B may function in the endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced pre-emptive quality control, a mechanism that selectively attenuates the translocation of newly synthesized proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum and reroutes them to the cytosol for proteasomal degradation (By similarity). By controlling the steady-state expression of the IGF1R receptor, ZFAND2B indirectly regulates the insulin-like growth factor receptor signaling pathway.
