Related Product Information for anti-XAF1 antibody
XAF-1 binds to XIAP, an inhibitor of caspases-3, -7, and -9, and triggers its relocation from the cytosol to the nucleus. Overexpression of XAF-1 results in the neutralization of XIAP's ability to inhibit cell death. XAF-1 is normally expressed in all adult and fetal tissues but was found to be present in very low levels in a variety of cancer cell lines. In contrast, XIAP levels have been shown to be high in a majority of cell lines.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein which binds to and counteracts the inhibitory effect of a member of the IAP (inhibitor of apoptosis) protein family. IAP proteins bind to and inhibit caspases which are activated during apoptosis. The proportion of IAPs and proteins which interfere with their activity, such as the encoded protein, affect the progress of the apoptosis signaling pathway. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012]

Uniprot Description

BIRC4BP: Seems to function as a negative regulator of members of the IAP (inhibitor of apoptosis protein) family. Inhibits anti- caspase activity of BIRC4. Induces cleavage and inactivation of BIRC4 independent of caspase activation. Mediates TNF-alpha- induced apoptosis and is involved in apoptosis in trophoblast cells. May inhibit BIRC4 indirectly by activating the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. After translocation to mitochondra, promotes translocation of BAX to mitochondria and cytochrome c release from mitochondria. Seems to promote the redistribution of BIRC4 from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, probably independent of BIRC4 inactivation which seems to occur in the cytoplasm. The BIRC4-XAF1 complex mediates down-regulation of BIRC5/survivin; the process requires the E3 ligase activity of BIRC4. Seems to be involved in cellular sensitivity to the proapoptotic actions of TRAIL. May be a tumor suppressor by mediating apoptosis resistance of cancer cells. 7 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Apoptosis; Tumor suppressor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p13.1

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: zinc ion binding

Biological Process: apoptosis; cytokine and chemokine mediated signaling pathway; negative regulation of protein complex assembly

Product Notes

The XAF1 xaf1 (Catalog #AAA241350) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit Polyclonal to Human XAF1 reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's XAF1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC - Paraffin), Western Blot (WB). IHC-P (10 ug/ml), WB (1 - 2 ug/ml) Usage: Immunohistochemistry: was validated for use in immunohistochemistry on a panel of 21 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) human tissues after heat induced antigen retrieval in pH 6.0 citrate buffer. After incubation with the primary anti.. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the XAF1 xaf1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "XAF1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
