UBE2S (Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme E2 S) is a Protein Coding gene. The UBE2S gene, located on 19q13.43, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, zebrafish, fruit fly, A.thaliana, rice, and frog. This gene encodes a member of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. The encoded protein can form a thiol ester linkage with ubiquitin in a ubiquitin-activating enzyme-dependent manner, a characteristic property of ubiquitin carrier proteins. UBE2S belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating (E2) enzyme family of the ubiquitin system. UBE2S plays a pivotal role in the progression of human cancers and is involved in protein degradation and signal transduction. UBE2S is a potential prognostic factor and functions as an oncogene in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
