Related Product Information for anti-SMAD5 antibody
SMADs are members of the MAD-related family of molecules. MAD-related proteins are a family of intracellular proteins that are essential components in the signaling pathways of the serine/threonine kinase receptors of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily (1). SMADs can be divided into receptor-regulated SMADs (R-SMADs: SMAD1, SMAD2, SMAD5, SMAD8 and SMAD9), common-mediator SMAD (co-SMAD: SMAD4), and inhibitory SMADs (I-SMADs: SMAD6 and SMAD7). SMAD1, SMAD5, SMAD8 and SMAD9 have high degrees of homology and antibodies are available that recognize sequences common to all of them. SMAD8 and SMAD9 are typically used as alternate names for one another in the literature.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is involved in the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway that results in an inhibition of the proliferation of hematopoietic progenitor cells. The encoded protein is activated by bone morphogenetic proteins type 1 receptor kinase, and may be involved in cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2014]

Uniprot Description

SMAD5: transcription factor phosphorylated and activated by bone morphogenetic protein receptor kinases. Phosphorylated Smads dimerize with collaborating Smad4 and are translocated into the nucleus, where they regulate transcription of target genes. Participates in a wide range of critical processes including morphogenesis, cell-fate determination, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.

Protein type: DNA-binding; Transcription, coactivator/corepressor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q31

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; transcription factor complex; protein complex; cytoplasm; integral to membrane; intracellular; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: protein binding; ubiquitin protein ligase binding; metal ion binding; receptor signaling protein activity; transcription factor activity; transforming growth factor beta receptor, pathway-specific cytoplasmic mediator activity

Biological Process: Mullerian duct regression; transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; embryonic pattern specification; signal transduction; protein amino acid phosphorylation; germ cell development; BMP signaling pathway; positive regulation of osteoblast differentiation; ureteric bud development; transforming growth factor beta receptor signaling pathway; cartilage development; erythrocyte differentiation; osteoblast fate commitment; cardiac muscle contraction

Product Notes

The SMAD5 dkfzp781o1323 (Catalog #AAA618920) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SMAD 1/5/8/9 (Small Mothers against Decapentaplegic Deleted in Pancreatic Carcinoma) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SMAD 1/5/8/9 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Dilution: Western Blot: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SMAD5 dkfzp781o1323 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SMAD 1/5/8/9, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
