RNFT2 (RING finger transmembrane-domain containing protein 2), a previously uncharacterized RING finger ubiquitin E3 ligase, negatively regulates IL-3-dependent cellular responses through IL-3Ralpha ubiquitination and degradation in the proteasome. RNFT2 is located on human chromosome 12q24.22. RNFT2 is related to electron transfer activity and iron-sulfur cluster binding. An important paralog of this gene is RNFT1. The RNFT2 (also known asTMEM118) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, mosquito, C.elegans, A.thaliana, rice, and frog. 234 organisms have orthologs with human gene RNFT2. RNFT2 is a negative regulator of IL-3Ralpha and plays a potential role in the RNFT2/IL-3Ralpha/IL-3 axis in regulating innate immune responses in the lung.
