Related Product Information for anti-PRLR antibody
Prolactin (PRL) is a pituitary hormone involved in a variety of essential functions including reproduction, ion transport, growth, development and immunoregulation. It is also classified as a cytokine and influences different cell types through a signal transduction pathway upon ligand binding and dimerization of the Prolactin Receptor. The transmembrane PRL receptor, a member of the cytokine receptor superfamily, can be found in long and short forms depending on tissue source and species (ranging from ~40 kDa to 100 kDa). Signal transduction is mediated with the aid of members of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a receptor for the anterior pituitary hormone, prolactin, and belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. Prolactin-dependent signaling occurs as the result of ligand-induced dimerization of the prolactin receptor. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different membrane-bound and soluble isoforms have been described for this gene, which may function to modulate the endocrine and autocrine effects of prolactin in normal tissue and cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]

Uniprot Description

Function: This is a receptor for the anterior pituitary hormone prolactin (PRL). Acts as a prosurvival factor for spermatozoa by inhibiting sperm capacitation through suppression of SRC kinase activation and stimulation of AKT. Isoform 4 is unable to transduce prolactin signaling. Isoform 6 is unable to transduce prolactin signaling. Ref.6 Ref.7

Subunit structure: Homodimer upon hormone binding. Interacts with SMARCA1. Interacts with GH1. Interacts with CSH. Interacts with NEK3 and VAV2 and this interaction is prolactin-dependent. Ref.4 Ref.13 Ref.14 Ref.15 Ref.17

Subcellular location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein Ref.4 Ref.6. Isoform 7: Secreted Ref.4 Ref.6.

Tissue specificity: Expressed in breast, placenta, kidney, liver and pancreas. Ref.4 Ref.6

Domain: The WSXWS motif appears to be necessary for proper protein folding and thereby efficient intracellular transport and cell-surface receptor binding. The box 1 motif is required for JAK interaction and/or activation.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. Type 1 subfamily.Contains 2 fibronectin type-III domains.

Product Notes

The PRLR prlr (Catalog #AAA524150) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Rat Prolactin Receptor, Purified, (polyclonal), (Rabbit IgG) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Prolactin Receptor can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry Paraffin (IHC). Suggested minimum working dilution of 1:500 in Western Blot; 1:1000 in ELISA and 1:1000 in IHC-P. This antibody has not been tested in other applications. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PRLR prlr for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Prolactin Receptor, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
