NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is an ATP-dependent metalloprotease that degrades post-cleavage mitochondrial transit peptides. The encoded protein binds zinc and can also degrade amyloid beta A4 protein, suggesting a possible role in Alzheimer's disease. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2016]

Uniprot Description

PITRM1: ATP-independent protease that degrades mitochondrial transit peptides after their cleavage. Also degrades other unstructured peptides. Specific for peptides in the range of 10 to 65 residues. Able to degrade amyloid beta A4 (APP) protein when it accumulates in mitochondrion, suggesting a link with Alzheimer disease. Shows a preference for cleavage after small polar residues and before basic residues, but without any positional preference. Belongs to the peptidase M16 family. PreP subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Activator; EC 3.4.24.-; Mitochondrial; Protease

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10p15.2

Cellular Component: mitochondrial matrix; mitochondrion

Molecular Function: enzyme activator activity; metal ion binding; metalloendopeptidase activity

Biological Process: positive regulation of catalytic activity; proteolysis

Product Notes

The MP1 pitrm1 (Catalog #AAA2002039) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Pitrilysin Metalloproteinase 1 (MP1) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Pitrilysin Metalloproteinase 1 (MP1) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Western blotting: 1:100-400 Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 1:50-200 Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 1:100-200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MP1 pitrm1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Antigen: The target protein is fused with N-terminal His-Tag and its sequence is listed below. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Pitrilysin Metalloproteinase 1 (MP1), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
