Related Product Information for anti-PGLYRP1 antibody
Peptidoglycan recognition proteins (PGRPs) are molecules that recognize peptidoglycan, a large component in bacterial cell walls. In insects, PGRPs activate antimicrobial pathways, and in mammals PGRPs function as antibacterial neutrophil proteins. PGRP-L halts bacterial growth by acting as an alanine amidase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes the amide bond of bacterial peptidoglycan. PGRP-I and PGRP-I are also members of the PGRP family that help recognize bacteria by binding to peptidoglycan and Gram-positive bacteria, but they do not have amidase activity. PGRP-S participates in intracellular killing of Gram-positive bacteria by stimulating two antimicrobial defense systeMouse, the prophenoloxidase cascade and the antimicrobial peptides through Toll receptors.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene stimulates the activity of several transcription factors and nuclear receptors, including estrogen receptor alpha, nuclear respiratory factor 1, and glucocorticoid receptor. The encoded protein may be involved in fat oxidation, non-oxidative glucose metabolism, and the regulation of energy expenditure. This protein is downregulated in prediabetic and type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Certain allelic variations in this gene increase the risk of the development of obesity. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Uniprot Description

PGLYRP1: Pattern receptor that binds to murein peptidoglycans (PGN) of Gram-positive bacteria. Has bactericidal activity towards Gram-positive bacteria. May kill Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Binds also to Gram- negative bacteria, and has bacteriostatic activity towards Gram- negative bacteria. Plays a role in innate immunity. Belongs to the N-acetylmuramoyl-L-alanine amidase 2 family.

Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Apoptosis; Secreted; Receptor, misc.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.2-q13.3

Cellular Component: extracellular region

Molecular Function: peptidoglycan receptor activity; peptidoglycan binding; zinc ion binding; N-acetylmuramoyl-L-alanine amidase activity

Biological Process: defense response to Gram-positive bacterium; negative regulation of natural killer cell differentiation during immune response; detection of bacterium; negative regulation of interferon-gamma production; negative regulation of inflammatory response; innate immune response; immune response; pattern recognition receptor signaling pathway; peptidoglycan catabolic process

Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PGLYRP1 pglyrp1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PGLYRP1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
