Related Product Information for anti-PFKFB3 antibody
Phosphofructosekinase-2 (PFK-2) belongs to the phosphoglycerate mutase family and is required for the activation of cellular glycolysis. Within the glycolysis pathway, PFK-2 regulates the synthesis and degradation of fructose 2, 6-bisphosphate (F2, 6BP) by enzymatically catalyzing the phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate to form F2, 6BP. F2, 6BP functions as a potent activator for 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase that can then activate the glycolysis pathway. Various tissue-specific isoforms of PFK-2 are expressed, including the PFK-2 specific to the brain (br), the liver (liv) and the placenta (pl), and they are also differentially regulated and function as homodimers. A unique isoform, iPFK-2, is induced following proinflammatory stimuli, and it is also constituitively expressed in a variety of carcinoma cell lines, where it leads to an accumation of intracellular F2, 6BP. In addition, the expression of iPFK-2 correlates to increases in DNA sysnthesis, suggesting that iPFK-2 may contribute to cellular transformation of cells and enhanced cellular proliferation.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a family of bifunctional proteins that are involved in both the synthesis and degradation of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate, a regulatory molecule that controls glycolysis in eukaryotes. The encoded protein has a 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase activity that catalyzes the synthesis of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (F2,6BP), and a fructose-2,6-biphosphatase activity that catalyzes the degradation of F2,6BP. This protein is required for cell cycle progression and prevention of apoptosis. It functions as a regulator of cyclin-dependent kinase 1, linking glucose metabolism to cell proliferation and survival in tumor cells. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]

Product Notes

The PFKFB3 pfkfb3 (Catalog #AAA3011856) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The PFKFB3 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PFKFB3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunofluorescence (IF). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IF: 1:50-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PFKFB3 pfkfb3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PFKFB3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
