Related Product Information for anti-MAPT antibody
Human Tau protein (a.k.a., "microtubule-associated protein tau isoform 1") is a 78.902 kD protein (758aa) expressed in cortical neurons of the CNS. In normal individuals, tau contains moderate degrees of phosphorylation on various serine and threonine residues scattered throughout the N-terminal half of this protein. However in various neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Tau becomes hyperphosphorylated on these residues, leading to the pathological formation of intracellular "neurofibrillary tangles." Such tangles are hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease, as well as various other neurodegenerative diseases, collectively known as the "tauopathies."

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) whose transcript undergoes complex, regulated alternative splicing, giving rise to several mRNA species. MAPT transcripts are differentially expressed in the nervous system, depending on stage of neuronal maturation and neuron type. MAPT gene mutations have been associated with several neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, frontotemporal dementia, cortico-basal degeneration and progressive supranuclear palsy. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Tau: a microtubule-associated protein that regulates microtubule assembly and stability. Apparently involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. Mutations can result in several neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, frontotemporal dementia, cortico-basal degeneration and progressive supranuclear palsy. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting that tau functions as a linker. Axonal polarity is predetermined by tau localization (in the neuronal cell) in the domain of the cell body defined by the centrosome. Nine differentially spliced isoforms have been described. The short isoforms allow plasticity of the cytoskeleton, whereas the longer isoforms may preferentially play a role in its stabilization.

Product Notes

The MAPT mapt (Catalog #AAA628534) is an Antibody produced from Chicken and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau Isoform 1 (TAU) reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau Isoform 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunocytochemistry (ICC). Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry and Western Blot. Dilution: Immunohistochemistry: 1:10,000-1:20,000 using 2% paraformaldehyde tissues Immunocytochemistry: 1:10,000-1:20,000 using 2% paraformaldehyde cells Western Blot: 1:20,000-1:50,000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MAPT mapt for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau Isoform 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
