NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a mediator of mitochondrial fusion. This protein and mitofusin 2 are homologs of the Drosophila protein fuzzy onion (Fzo). They are mitochondrial membrane proteins that interact with each other to facilitate mitochondrial targeting. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MFN1: Essential transmembrane GTPase, which mediates mitochondrial fusion. Fusion of mitochondria occurs in many cell types and constitutes an important step in mitochondria morphology, which is balanced between fusion and fission. MFN1 acts independently of the cytoskeleton. Overexpression induces the formation of mitochondrial networks. Belongs to the mitofusin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q26.33

Cellular Component: mitochondrial outer membrane; integral to membrane

Molecular Function: GTPase activity; protein binding; GTP binding

Biological Process: mitochondrial fusion; metabolic process

Product Notes

The MFN1 mfn1 (Catalog #AAA244439) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat Polyclonal to Human MFN1 reacts with Gibbon, Dog, Horse, Human, Monkey, Rabbit Predicted Reactivity: Gorilla, Mouse, Rat, Bovine (at least 90% immunogen sequence identity) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MFN1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC - Paraffin). IHC-P (3.75 ug/ml) Usage: Immunohistochemistry: was validated for use in immunohistochemistry on a panel of 21 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) human tissues after heat induced antigen retrieval in pH 6.0 citrate buffer. After incubation with the primary anti.. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MFN1 mfn1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MFN1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
