Target Description: Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels represent the most complex class of voltage-gated ion channels from both functional and structural standpoints. Their diverse functions include regulating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume. Four sequence-related potassium channel genes - shaker, shaw, shab, and shal - have been identified in Drosophila, and each has been shown to have human homolog(s). This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shaker-related subfamily. This member is one of the beta subunits, which are auxiliary proteins associating with functional Kv-alpha subunits. This member and the KCNA5 gene product assemble into a heteromultimeric A-type channel that inactivates completely and is significantly faster than other A-type Kv channels.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shaker-related subfamily. The encoded protein is one of the beta subunits, which are auxiliary proteins associating with functional Kv-alpha subunits. The encoded protein forms a heterodimer with the potassium voltage-gated channel, shaker-related subfamily, member 5 gene product and regulates the activity of the alpha subunit. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]

Uniprot Description

KCNAB3: Accessory potassium channel protein which modulates the activity of the pore-forming alpha subunit. Alters the functional properties of Kv1.5. Belongs to the shaker potassium channel beta subunit family.

Protein type: Channel, potassium

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17p13.1

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; integral to membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: voltage-gated potassium channel activity; potassium channel regulator activity

Biological Process: synaptic transmission; potassium ion transport

Product Notes

The KCNAB3 kcnab3 (Catalog #AAA3202448) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The KCNAB3 antibody - N-terminal region reacts with Cow, Dog, Guinea Pig, Horse, Human, Mouse, Rabbit, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's KCNAB3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KCNAB3 kcnab3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Synthetic peptide located within the following region: RNLGKSGLRV SCLGLGTWVT FGSQISDETA EDVLTVAYEH GVNLFDTAEV. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "KCNAB3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
