Related Product Information for anti-KPNA1 antibody
Influenza virus is a single-stranded RNA virus, segmented, 70nm diameter and enveloped. Strains are described by geographic origin, strain number, year of isolation and hemagglutination (H) and neuraminidase (N) antigens. It is an acute viral disease of the uper respiratory tract characterized by fever, headache, chills, myalgia, weakness, runny nose and sore throat. Cough can be severe. Nausea and vomiting are uncommon. Fatality is generally low, except for those with chronic lung or heart conditions.

NCBI Description

The transport of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells is mediated by the nuclear pore complex (NPC), which consists of 60-100 proteins. Small molecules (up to 70 kD) can pass through the nuclear pore by nonselective diffusion while larger molecules are transported by an active process. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the importin alpha family, and is involved in nuclear protein import. This protein interacts with the recombination activating gene 1 (RAG1) protein and is a putative substrate of the RAG1 ubiquitin ligase. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2012]

Uniprot Description

KPNA1: Functions in nuclear protein import as an adapter protein for nuclear receptor KPNB1. Binds specifically and directly to substrates containing either a simple or bipartite NLS motif. Docking of the importin/substrate complex to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) is mediated by KPNB1 through binding to nucleoporin FxFG repeats and the complex is subsequently translocated through the pore by an energy requiring, Ran- dependent mechanism. At the nucleoplasmic side of the NPC, Ran binds to importin-beta and the three components separate and importin-alpha and -beta are re-exported from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where GTP hydrolysis releases Ran from importin. The directionality of nuclear import is thought to be conferred by an asymmetric distribution of the GTP- and GDP-bound forms of Ran between the cytoplasm and nucleus. In vitro, mediates the nuclear import of human cytomegalovirus UL84 by recognizing a non- classical NLS. Belongs to the importin alpha family.

Protein type: Karyopherin; Nuclear import; Adaptor/scaffold

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q21

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm; dendrite; nuclear pore; nucleus; cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; nuclear localization sequence binding; protein transporter activity

Biological Process: viral reproduction; positive regulation of protein import into nucleus; apoptosis; regulation of DNA recombination; cytokine and chemokine mediated signaling pathway; NLS-bearing substrate import into nucleus; viral infectious cycle; DNA fragmentation during apoptosis; cell structure disassembly during apoptosis

Product Notes

The KPNA1 kpna1 (Catalog #AAA625980) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Influenza A, Texas 1/77 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF). Suitable for use in Fluorescence Microscopy and Hemmagglutination inhibition. Dilution: Indirect Immunofluorescence: > 1:1000 Hemagglutination Inhibition: > 1:2500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KPNA1 kpna1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Influenza A, Texas 1/77, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
