NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
Function: Terminates the action of glycine by its high affinity sodium-dependent reuptake into presynaptic terminals. May play a role in regulation of glycine levels in NMDA receptor-mediated neurotransmission
By similarity. UniProtKB P48067
Subcellular location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein
Potential.
Tissue specificity: First expressed in early tailbud stage embryos in the midbrain and anterior spinal cord, and weakly in the hindbrain. By late tailbud stages, expression extends posteriorly in the spinal cord to appear in between somites. Expressed in the forebrain, retina, between the somites and in the blood islands by the swimming tadpole stages. Ref.1
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the sodium:neurotransmitter symporter (SNF) (TC 2.A.22) family. SLC6A9 subfamily. [View classification]
