Related Product Information for anti-FOLR1 antibody
The protein encoded by FOLR1 gene is a member of the folate receptor family. Members of this gene family bind folic acid and its reduced derivatives, and transport 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into cells. This gene product is a secreted protein that either anchors to membranes via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exists in a soluble form. Mutations in this gene have been associated with neurodegeneration due to cerebral folate transport deficiency. Due to the presence of two promoters, multiple transcription start sites, and alternative splicing, multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
Folate receptor alpha (FRalpha) is the most important subunit of Folate receptor and the alpha isoform has been shown to be selectively overexpressed in cancer types like breast and ovarian cancer compared to normal breast and ovarian epithelial cells. It was determined that Folate receptor alpha exhibits a limited expression on the apical surfaces of the epithelial cells of normal lung, breast, thyroid, parathyroid, and kidney tissues. For their uptake of folate, normal cells rely almost exclusively on the reduced folate carrier, whereas many carcinomas and myeloid leukemia cells overexpress a high-affinity FR on their surfaces, perhaps reflecting their increased need for folate to support rapid cell division.

NCBI Description

Uniprot Description

FOLR1: Binds to folate and reduced folic acid derivatives and mediates delivery of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells. Defects in FOLR1 are the cause of neurodegeneration due to cerebral folate transport deficiency (NCFTD). NCFTD is an autosomal recessive disorder resulting from brain- specific folate deficiency early in life. Onset is apparent in late infancy with severe developmental regression, movement disturbances, epilepsy, and leukodystrophy. Recognition and diagnosis of this disorder is critical because folinic acid therapy can reverse the clinical symptoms and improve brain abnormalities and function. Belongs to the folate receptor family.

Product Notes

The FOLR1 folr1 (Catalog #AAA8113090) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-FOLR1 Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's FOLR1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC-P: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FOLR1 folr1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FOLR1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
