ANTKMT (Adenine Nucleotide Translocase Lysine Methyltransferase, also known as ANT-KMT; FAM173A; C16orf24) localizes to mitochondria, mediated by a noncanonical targeting sequence that is partially retained in the mature protein. The ANTKMT protein is broadly expressed in kidney, colon and other tissues. Structurally, the encoded protein is reported to be 25130 Da in mass. FAM173A is a paralogue of ATPSc-KMT that is present only in vertebrates. The two proteins share high degree of homology throughout their entire sequence, including the N-terminal region, which encompasses a predicted transmembrane domain (TMD) and a noncanonical mitochondrial targeting sequence (MTS) responsible for mitochondrial localization of ATPSc-KMT.
