NCBI Description

A large number of extracellular matrix proteins have been found to contain variations of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) domain and have been implicated in functions as diverse as blood coagulation, activation of complement and determination of cell fate during development. The protein encoded by this gene contains four EGF2 domains and six calcium-binding EGF2 domains. This gene is necessary for elastic fiber formation and connective tissue development. Defects in this gene are cause of an autosomal recessive cutis laxa syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]

Uniprot Description

EFEMP2: Defects in EFEMP2 are the cause of cutis laxa, autosomal recessive, type 1B (ARCL1B). A connective tissue disorder characterized by characterized by loose, hyperextensible skin with decreased resilience and elasticity leading to a premature aged appearance. Face, hands, feet, joints, and torso may be differentially affected. The clinical spectrum of autosomal recessive cutis laxa is highly heterogeneous with respect to organ involvement and severity. ARCL1B features include emphysema, lethal pulmonary artery occlusion, aortic aneurysm, cardiopulmonary insufficiency, birth fractures, arachnodactyly, and fragility of blood vessels. Belongs to the fibulin family.

Product Notes

The EFEMP2 efemp2 (Catalog #AAA9208133) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 386-414. The EFEMP2 Antibody (C-term) reacts with Human, mouse (Predicted Reactivity: Hamster) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's EFEMP2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). WB~~1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the EFEMP2 efemp2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "EFEMP2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
