Rabbit anti human Defensinbeta-3 polyclonal antibody specifically recognizes human defensin beta 3 (BD-3), a 45aa ~5kDa cationic non-haemolytic antimicrobial peptide expressed by epithelial cells and member of the beta-defensin family. Defensin beta 3 is highly expressed in the skin and tonsils and at lower levels in other tissues(Harder et al. 2001). Defensin beta 3 plays an important role in the innate immune response to potentially pathogenic microbes, including multiresistant S. aureus and vancomycin-resistant E. faecium.

This gene encodes defensin, beta 103, an antibiotic peptide which is induced by bacteria and interferon gamma, and which displays antimicrobial activity against S. aureus, S. pyogenes, P. aeruginosa, E. coli, and C. albicans.
